Jaani, born Rajiv Arora on 25 May 1989 in Gidderbaha, Punjab, is among the most influential lyricist-composers to cross over from Punjabi pop into Hindi film music. After a modest start writing a devotional track in 2012, he shot to prominence with "Soch" (2013), sung by Hardy Sandhu and composed by B Praak — the beginning of a songwriting partnership that would define a decade of Punjabi hit-making. With B Praak and director Arvindr Khaira he co-founded the label Desi Melodies, and his catalogue of aching, conversational heartbreak songs — "Naah", "Kya Baat Ay", "Pachtaoge", "Titliaan", "Baarish Ki Jaaye" — made his pen name a brand in its own right. Bollywood followed: "Filhall" and "Filhaal2 Mohabbat" with Akshay Kumar became streaming phenomena, and his songs have featured in Hindi films such as Sarbjit, Bala, Shershaah and Animal. Increasingly credited as a composer as well as a wordsmith, Jaani continues to write prolifically for Hindi and Punjabi releases, with recent credits including "Nasha", "Pehla Tu Duja Tu" and "Mere Murshid Mere Yaara" (2025). He also released the albums Shayar and Jaani Ve, and made his acting debut in the Punjabi film Qismat 2 (2021).
