सन ऑफ सरदार 2

Son of Sardaar 2 (2025) is the sequel to the 2012 Ajay Devgn action-comedy Son of Sardaar (Ashwni Dhir, 2012). The sequel is directed by Vijay Kumar Arora and produced by Deepak Mukut and Anil Sharma. It stars Ajay Devgn reprising his role as Jassi alongside Mrunal Thakur as the female lead and Sanjay Dutt in a key supporting role. The film was released Eid 2025. Despite the franchise's goodwill from the original, the sequel underperformed — reportedly collecting ₹60.90 crore against a ₹150 crore budget, making it one of the year's significant box office disappointments. The soundtrack was released by T-Series with Daler Mehndi, Mika Singh, Gippy Grewal and other Punjabi powerhouses as the primary vocal artists.

Son of Sardaar 2 was one of 2025's most instructive case studies in franchise fatigue — a sequel released thirteen years after its original, with a budget nearly double its eventual earnings. The Punjabi-flavoured soundtrack featuring Daler Mehndi, Mika Singh, and Gippy Grewal failed to generate the same party energy as its predecessor, released under T-Series. The film's underperformance demonstrated the risk of reviving dormant franchise properties without the original creative team: director Ashwni Dhir was replaced by Vijay Kumar Arora. In the streaming era, a single viral song matters more than a full album of Punjabi party tracks, and this film delivered neither.

Son of Sardaar 2's ₹60.90 crore collection against a ₹150 crore budget made it one of 2025's clearest commercial failures, widely cited as evidence that the 2010s-era nostalgia franchise revival model had exhausted itself in Hindi cinema. Its Amazon Prime Video OTT release provided downstream revenue. The soundtrack generated no lasting cultural presence. The film's legacy is largely cautionary — it will likely discourage studios from commissioning late sequels to 2010s-era comedies for several years.
