B Praak, born Pratik Bachan in Chandigarh, is a singer and music director who carried the sound of Punjabi pop into mainstream Hindi film music. He began behind the console as a music producer, and his 2012 partnership with lyricist Jaani grew into one of contemporary Punjabi music's defining composer-writer teams. His 2018 singing debut 'Mann Bharrya' introduced the heavy, ache-laden baritone that became his signature and made the wounded ballad his home territory. Hindi cinema followed in 2019: his rendition of 'Teri Mitti' from Kesari won him the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer at the 67th National Film Awards, while the non-film single 'Filhall' with Akshay Kumar became a runaway hit. In 2021, 'Ranjha' from Shershaah ranked as the second most-streamed song of the year on Spotify in India, and the film's soundtrack — to which he contributed 'Mann Bharryaa 2.0' — brought him Filmfare and IIFA honours for music direction.
