मुमताज़

Mumtaz was a singer in Hindi films of the early 1940s, one of several performers of that era known on record by a single name — she is distinct from the later star actress Mumtaz and from the actress Mumtaz Shanti. Her documented recordings all date from 1943. In Mehboob Khan's Najma, under composer Rafiq Ghaznavi, she sang 'Sajan Ke Naina Jadu Baan' with Amirbai Karnataki, 'Bhala Kyu Magar Kyu' with Parul Ghosh, and further duets with Ashok Kumar and with Ghaznavi himself. The same year she recorded 'Idhar Aa Meri Taraf' for Fashion under music director Shanti Kumar, and the duet 'Mere To Ab Tumhi Sahara' with Allah Rakha in the mythological Mahasati Ansuya. Beyond these credits, no reliable details of her life have been recorded.
