Lafz Bheege Hain (लफ़्ज़ भीगे हैं, 'Words Are Drenched in Tears') is the eight-minute title track that opens Sufiscore's five-song ghazal EP of the same name, released on 31 August 2023. Poet Ajay Sahaab wrote all five songs as a tribute to the decades-long, never-consummated love between Progressive Writers' Movement icons Amrita Pritam and Sahir Ludhianvi, set to music by composer Rajesh Singh and produced/arranged by Paras Nath, with vocals by classical-trained playback singer Pratibha Singh Baghel. An accompanying music-video series, directed with a golden-era-of-cinema visual language and shot against colonial Pondicherry and Mumbai backdrops, stars Prachi Desai and Som Chattopadhyay as fictionalised versions of the two writers. Sahaab described the project's intent as trying to 'revive the classicity of the ghazal' for a modern audience, while Baghel said that on first hearing the song, 'time stopped' for her. The official Sufiscore video for the title track has drawn tens of millions of views on YouTube, making it one of the most-watched independent ghazal releases of 2023.

Composer Rajesh Singh built the melody on the mood of Hindustani classical 'evening ragas', giving the song a contemplative, dusk-lit character before producer-arranger Paras Nath layered it with a chamber-like blend of cello, acoustic guitars, violin, viola, keyboards, bansuri, fretless sarod and bowed sarangi — a deliberately East-meets-West palette meant to carry the ghazal form into a contemporary listening context. Pratibha Singh Baghel's vocal, trained in thumri and classical forms, sits at the emotional centre, restrained rather than ornamental, letting the poetry lead.

Ajay Sahaab's opening couplet — 'Lafz bheege hain mere paani mein, kitne aansoo the iss kahaani mein' (my words are drenched in tears — how many tears were in this story) — sets up the EP's central metaphor: language itself soaked through by unshed grief. As the title track, it functions as a prologue to the four ghazals that follow, framing the whole EP as a story told through weeping words rather than direct narration, in keeping with the ghazal tradition's preference for indirection and metaphor over plain statement.

The Lafz Bheege Hain EP dramatises the real, historically documented, one-sided love that Sahir Ludhianvi carried for Amrita Pritam for much of his life — a relationship the two writers themselves wrote about obliquely in their own poetry but never consummated. The accompanying five-part video series, shot in a golden-era-of-Hindi-cinema visual style against colonial Pondicherry and Mumbai locations, casts Prachi Desai and Som Chattopadhyay as fictionalised versions of Pritam and Ludhianvi, turning the project into a mini period drama told entirely through music videos rather than a conventional film or web series.

The official Sufiscore YouTube video for the title track has been viewed tens of millions of times, an unusually large audience for an independent, non-film ghazal release, and the song has since spawned fan and cover renditions (including a widely-viewed version by singer Kavya Limaye) that credit it as 'India's most-viewed ghazal.' The EP as a whole was covered by Rolling Stone India and regional entertainment press as a rare, well-produced attempt to bring the traditional ghazal form back into mainstream digital listening.
