श्यामलाङ्गी कर्नाटक की 72-मेलकर्ता पद्धति का 55वाँ मेलकर्ता है, जो दसवें चक्र 'दिशि' (मेलकर्ता 55–60) का प्रथम राग है। यह प्रति मध्यम खण्ड (मेलकर्ता 37–72) के अन्तर्गत आता है। वेंकटमखी ने 1660 ई. में इसका वर्णन किया। दिशि चक्र के प्रथम तीन मेलकर्ताओं (55–57) में प्रति मध्यम (M2) और शुद्ध निषाद (N1 / अतिकोमल नि) का प्रयोग होता है — हिन्दुस्तानी पद्धति में इस अत्यन्त कोमल नि का कोई समकक्ष नहीं है। 'श्यामलाङ्गी' देवी श्यामला से जुड़ा नाम है। डॉ. बालमुरलीकृष्ण ने इसमें कृति रची है।

Shamalangi is the 55th melakarta in the Carnatic 72-melakarta system, the first raag of the tenth chakra, Disi (melakartas 55–60). It belongs to the prati madhyama half (melakartas 37–72). Venkatamakhi's Caturdandi Prakasika (1660 CE) included this scale. The Disi chakra is characterised by scales with prati madhyama (M2) and shuddha nishada (N1 / atikomal Ni) in its first three melakartas (55–57), creating scales with an extremely low Ni not found in Hindustani music. The name Shamalangi is associated with the goddess Shamalaa — the dark, beautiful one — and reflects the devotional naming tradition of the mela system. Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna composed a kriti in Shamalangi.
