Bidaja may be a phonological adaptation of Sanskrit vij-aja or more plausibly of vijaya (victory), or may relate to vitaja/bidaja meaning born of sweat (as in a specific type of birth in Hindu cosmology — svedaja, sweat-born). In Tamil and Carnatic contexts, bidaja (or vidaja) could also be a regional form. However, the most likely root is Sanskrit vidaja or bijaja (from bija, seed — thus seed-born, referring to plant-born beings in classical taxonomy). The name Bidajapriya would then mean beloved of the seed-born or beloved of plants/nature. Such nature-themed raag names appear in certain sub-traditions of Carnatic music. Venkatamakhin's 72-melakarta taxonomy (c. 1620 CE) provides the classification framework, but the specific parent melakarta and swaras of Bidajapriya have not been documented in standard Carnatic texts.
