A 1941 Hindi social-musical directed by M. A. Mirza, with Trilok Kapoor and Ramola in the lead roles and a supporting ensemble of Ranibala, Navin Yagnik, Hadi, Kamala and Shakir. As with most films of the early-talkie period, the picture survives chiefly through its soundtrack and credits rather than a complete plot record; its songs, composed by Vasant Kumar Naidu, are the principal documentary trace it leaves behind.

The score is credited entirely to Vasant Kumar Naidu. Period song catalogues record several numbers from the film, including the title-evoking 'Tori Zindagi Ek Suhana Geet Hai', the hopeful 'Asha Ne Deep Jalaye' and the Urdu-leaning 'Khanjar-e-Naaz Ko Paivaste Rag-e-Jaan Kar Do'. Singer and lyricist credits for the individual songs are not preserved in the sources consulted.

Behind the Scenes

Trilok Kapoor, the film's leading man, was the younger brother of Prithviraj Kapoor and would go on to a long career, especially in mythological cinema. Ramola was among the active leading ladies of late-1930s and 1940s Hindi films. Documentation for many films of this era is fragmentary, and Suhana Geet is no exception — its plot details and per-song credits have largely been lost.
Significance

Suhana Geet belongs to the prolific 1939–1947 output of music director Vasant Kumar Naidu, who scored some twenty-two films in that span. The film is a representative early-1940s production pairing the popular leading man Trilok Kapoor — younger brother of Prithviraj Kapoor — with the actress-singer Ramola, a familiar combination of the period.
Legacy

Like much of the Hindi cinema of 1941, Suhana Geet endures today mainly as an entry in film and song catalogues — a record of Vasant Kumar Naidu's busy composing years and of a Trilok Kapoor–Ramola pairing. It stands as a small piece of the dense, fast-moving film economy of pre-Independence Bombay.
