लीला चिटणीस (1909–2003) — पढ़ी-लिखी मराठी अभिनेत्री, जो हिंदी सिनेमा की पहली शिक्षित नायिकाओं में थीं। बॉम्बे टॉकीज़ की चमकती सितारा बनकर अशोक कुमार के साथ 'कंगन' (1939), 'बंधन' (1940) और 'झूला' (1941) जैसी कामयाब फ़िल्में दीं। नायिका के दौर के बाद 1950–60 के दशक में उन्होंने हिंदी सिनेमा की 'दुखियारी माँ' का वह आदर्श रूप गढ़ा जिसे आगे चलकर निरूपा रॉय जैसी अभिनेत्रियों ने आगे बढ़ाया। कहा जाता है कि वे लक्स साबुन के विज्ञापन में आने वाली पहली भारतीय अभिनेत्री थीं।

1909 में धारवाड़ में लीला नागरकर के रूप में एक मराठीभाषी परिवार में जन्म; पिता अंग्रेज़ी साहित्य के शिक्षक थे। उन्होंने बी.ए. की डिग्री ली और भारतीय सिनेमा में आने वाली पहली औपचारिक रूप से शिक्षित स्त्रियों में गिनी गईं।

Began in Marathi theatre and early films of the 1930s; rose to stardom at Bombay Talkies opposite Ashok Kumar in Kangan (1939), Bandhan (1940) and Jhoola (1941). From the late 1940s she shifted to maternal roles, playing the mother in landmark films across two decades — Awaara (1951), Ganga Jumna (1961) and Guide (1965) among them. She also directed the film Aaj Ki Baat (1955).
