Raag Bhosala is a complete scale with all 7 notes in both ascent and descent raga in the Carnatic classical music tradition.. With its Sampurna-Sampurna jati structure, this raag creates a distinctive tonal landscape. Bhosala is an extremely obscure Carnatic janya raga. The name may derive from the Bhosale (Bhosla) dynasty of the Marathas — the royal lineage that produced Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (1630–1680) and later the Peshwa rulers of Pune. Patronage of music by the Maratha courts (Tanjore, Gwalior, Pune) was extensive, and it is documented that several ragas were named in honour of the Bhosale clan or composed under their patronage at the Tanjore (Thanjavur) court, which was a major centre of Carnatic music from the 17th to 19th centuries. However, without arohana-avarohana data and documentary evidence linking Bhosala raga to the Bhosale court, this etymological interpretation remains speculative. The parent melakarta cannot be determined. The raga has no documented film or concert recording history.
