Rangisari (रंगीसारी) is the contemporary recreation of 'Rangi Saari,' a beloved thumri originally popularised by classical vocalist Shobha Gurtu, remade by the mother-son duo Kavita Seth and Kanishk Seth for Raj Mehta's family dramedy Jugjugg Jeeyo (2022). Released on 6 June 2022 as the film's second single under T-Series, the song set Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani's on-screen chemistry to a semi-classical melody rooted in traditional Braj Bhasha poetry. The Seths had originally released their own independent version of 'Rangi Saari' years earlier to organic acclaim, and had once hoped to place it in the 2018 film Dhadak before label complications shelved that plan; music supervisor Azeem Dayani later brought the song into Jugjugg Jeeyo. The recreation went on to earn Kavita Seth the Filmfare Award and Zee Cine Award for Best Female Playback Singer in 2023, alongside IIFA nominations for both singers — an unusually strong awards run for a classically-rooted song in a mainstream Bollywood soundtrack dominated by upbeat Punjabi numbers.

Kavita Seth and Kanishk Seth built Rangisari on the melodic backbone of Shobha Gurtu's classical thumri 'Rangi Saari,' retaining its raga-rooted vocal ornamentation while dressing it in a fuller, more contemporary arrangement suited to a big-screen soundtrack. Kavita Seth's voice carries the traditional weight of the thumri form — the meend (glides) and taan (fast melodic runs) associated with the genre — while Kanishk Seth's vocal and production choices modernise the texture without flattening its classical character, a balance that reviewers and award juries singled out as distinct from the rest of the film's more electronic, Punjabi-pop-leaning soundtrack.

The traditional Braj Bhasha lyrics of Rangisari work in classic thumri imagery: a pink 'chunariya' (scarf) that has taken on colour, and a 'saanwariya' (dark-complexioned beloved, evoking Krishna) whose glance ('nazariya') strikes the singer. This vocabulary of longing dressed in domestic, festive imagery is centuries old in the thumri and folk tradition, and its retention — unaltered — in a 2022 mainstream film song is itself notable, since most Bollywood soundtracks would rewrite such lyrics into more modern Hindi-Urdu phrasing.

Jugjugg Jeeyo, directed by Raj Mehta for Dharma Productions and Viacom18 Studios, follows two couples — Kukoo (Varun Dhawan) and Nainaa (Kiara Advani) secretly planning a divorce, and Kukoo's parents Bheem (Anil Kapoor) and Geeta (Neetu Kapoor) navigating a marital crisis of their own — as family secrets surface around a sister's wedding. Rangisari appears as a romantic, festive interlude set against the film's wedding-season backdrop, visually built around Dhawan and Advani's chemistry. The song's inclusion followed an unusual path: the Seths' original 'Rangi Saari' had circulated independently for years and was once nearly used in Dhadak (2018) before that plan fell through over music-label issues; music supervisor Azeem Dayani eventually placed it in Jugjugg Jeeyo instead.

Rangisari's official T-Series video has crossed over 128 million YouTube views, and the song earned Kavita Seth both the Filmfare Award and the Zee Cine Award for Best Female Playback Singer in 2023, plus IIFA nominations for both Kavita and Kanishk Seth in the playback categories — a rare mainstream awards sweep for a classically-styled thumri recreation rather than a conventional pop number. The song also earned a Filmfare nomination for Best Choreography (Bosco–Caesar), underlining its visual as well as musical impact within the soundtrack.
