Synopsisप्रभात फ़िल्म कंपनी की मराठा इतिहास से ली गई एक ऐतिहासिक पोशाकी फ़िल्म, जो अठारहवीं सदी के पुणे के पेशवा दरबार के निष्ठावान न्यायाधीश राम शास्त्री प्रभुणे के जीवन का नाट्य-रूपांतर है — वह व्यक्ति जिसने देश के सबसे शक्तिशाली लोगों के सामने भी क़ानून के आगे झुकने से इनकार किया। कथा पेशवा नारायणराव की मृत्यु से उपजे नैतिक संकट और दोषियों के विरुद्ध रामशास्त्री के निर्भीक निर्णय के इर्द-गिर्द घूमती है।

A Prabhat Film Company costume drama drawn from Maratha history, dramatising the life of Ram Shastri Prabhune, the upright chief justice of the Peshwa court in 18th-century Pune, who famously refused to bend the law even before the most powerful in the land. The film centres on the moral crisis surrounding the death of Peshwa Narayanrao and Ramshastri's fearless verdict against those responsible.

The Hindi soundtrack, composed by G. Damle with lyrics by Qamar Jalalabadi, comprises seven songs in the restrained, devotional-classical idiom characteristic of Prabhat's house style — voices such as Meenakshi, Baby Shakuntala and Anant Marathe carrying songs that serve the historical narrative rather than dominate it. The Marathi version's score by Keshavrao Bhole is the better-remembered of the two.
