Biography

Mir Saheb (also credited as Mir Sahib or Meer Sahab) was a Hindi-film music director active at Bombay's Minerva Movietone studio in the late 1930s and early 1940s, the era of producer-director Sohrab Modi's historical spectaculars. His confirmed screen credits include Bahadur Kisan (1938) and Jailor (1938), co-composing Pukar (1939) with S. Fernandes, and co-composing the Modi-Prithviraj Kapoor historical epic Sikandar (1941) with Rafiq Ghaznavi.

At Minerva Movietone, Mir Saheb played a formative role in the careers of several figures who went on to shape Hindi film music. During the making of Bahadur Kisan (1938), he nicknamed a fun-loving young singer "Khan Mastana" — a name that stuck — and then brought him to Minerva Movietone, helping him secure a three-year singing contract; Khan Mastana went on to sing in Jailor (1938) and Main Haari (1940). Mir Saheb also employed the young Ramchandra Narhar Chitalkar and Sajjad Hussain as his musical assistants; both later became celebrated music directors in their own right, known respectively as C. Ramchandra and Sajjad Hussain. Beyond these film credits, detailed biographical information about Mir Saheb — including his full name and birth or death dates — has not surfaced in accessible historical records.
