A. S. Gyani is known through a single celebrated film: Kidar Sharma's Chitralekha (1941), one of the landmark musicals of its year. Song listings of the period credit him as co-music director alongside the veteran classical musician Ustad Jhande Khan on the film's raag-based score — songs such as "Saiya Sanvre Bhaye Bavre", "Ruth Aaye Ruth Jaye", "Naiya Dhire Dhire Jaye" and "Tum Jao Bade Bhagwan Bane", set to Kidar Sharma's own lyrics and rooted in raags like Bhairavi. Some accounts attribute the music solely to Jhande Khan, so the exact extent of Gyani's composing contribution remains uncertain. The film's cast list also includes an A. S. Gyani in the role of the ascetic Kumargiri. Beyond Chitralekha, nothing about his life or career is reliably documented.
