Mehboob Khan's socially conscious romantic drama pairs two separated childhood friends — Lata and Chander — across the divides of fortune and circumstance. Naushad's score, among the finest of the pre-Independence decade, gave Noor Jehan and Surendra vehicles perfectly calibrated to their registers, producing songs that became permanent fixtures on All India Radio.

Naushad constructed the score around Noor Jehan's voice — 'Awaz De Kahan Hai' and 'Jawan Hai Mohabbat' became among the most-played songs on All India Radio through the late 1940s. Rafi had a minor presence; the leads dominated.

Mehboob Khan conceived Anmol Ghadi as a prestige production — his first major post-war statement. Naushad was given unusual latitude to experiment with orchestration, resulting in a score that blended Western strings with Indian classical melodic structures.

A landmark of late colonial Hindi cinema: Naushad's most lyrical pre-Independence score, Noor Jehan at the height of her powers, and Surendra's last great commercial run. The film consolidated Naushad as the dominant composer of the era and established Tanveer Naqvi among the premier lyricists.

Anmol Ghadi remained a reference point for how Indian film music could carry genuine lyrical weight. It is the last major film from Noor Jehan's Indian career before Partition took her to Pakistan.
