Yo Yo Honey Singh, born Hirdesh Singh on 15 March 1983 in Karampura, West Delhi, is an Indian singer, rapper, music producer, and actor credited with popularizing Punjabi hip-hop and pop-rap within mainstream Bollywood music. Raised in a Sikh family with roots in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, he studied at Guru Nanak Public School in New Delhi and later studied music at Trinity College in England.
He began his career as a hip-hop music producer around 2003, working in the underground music scene before releasing his debut studio album, International Villager. His collaboration with Diljit Dosanjh on "Lak 28 Kudi Da" topped the BBC Asian Download Chart in May 2011, and by the early 2010s he had become one of the most in-demand music acts in India, commanding what were then record-setting fees for Bollywood film songs.
Singh has written, sung, and composed music for numerous Hindi film soundtracks and has also acted in Punjabi and Hindi films. In December 2024, a Netflix documentary titled Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous chronicled his career and personal struggles, including his disclosure of living with bipolar disorder.
