ग़ज़ल का सामान — बेवफ़ा वादे, इश्क़ की अदालतें, बरबाद करने वाला भरोसा — 1918 तक गायिका की अपनी ज़िंदगी से असुविधाजनक हद तक मिलता-जुलता था: बिगड़ चुका एक गुप्त निकाह, जायदाद के मुक़दमे, सबसे क़रीबियों की दग़ा। उन्होंने बोल जान-बूझकर मिलते-जुलते चुने हों या नहीं, उनके सुनने वाले उन्हें ऐसे ही सुनते थे।

1910 के दशक के उत्तरार्ध में गौहर जान अपने सचिव-से-साथी बने अब्बास से जुड़े थका देने वाले मुक़दमों में उलझी रहीं, फिर भी रिकॉर्डिंग और महफ़िलें चलती रहीं। उनके अंतिम सत्र दशक के मोड़ के आसपास हुए; 1928 में उन्होंने मैसूर दरबार का निमंत्रण स्वीकारा, और जनवरी 1930 में वहीं देहांत हुआ।

Through the late 1910s Gauhar Jaan was entangled in draining litigation around her secretary-turned-companion Abbas, even as she continued to record and perform. Her last sessions came around the turn of the decade; in 1928 she accepted the Mysore court's invitation, and she died there in January 1930.
