Synopsis1942 की एक रोमांटिक सामाजिक ड्रामा, 'याद' अभिनेता मज़हर ख़ान द्वारा नवस्थापित एशियाटिक पिक्चर्स, बम्बई की पहली निर्मित फ़िल्म थी। 'याद' अर्थात स्मृति और तड़प के उसी भाव के इर्द-गिर्द बुनी गई, जिससे फ़िल्म का नाम पड़ा, इसमें मज़हर ख़ान के साथ वीणा प्रमुख भूमिका में थीं, और इसका गीत-समृद्ध संगीत इसके आकर्षण का केंद्र था।

K. Datta scored all nine songs of Yaad to the lyrics of Arzoo Lakhnavi, drawing principally on the voices of Rajkumari and G. M. Durrani. The numbers range from romantic-longing pieces such as 'Yaad Jab Bechain Karti Hai' (a Rajkumari–Durrani duet) and Durrani's 'Mohabbat Kare To Mara Jaye' to monsoon and mood songs like 'Aaya Sawan Ka Mahinawa', reflecting the early-1940s film-song idiom built on light-classical and folk colouring.
