A romantic drama starring Noor Jehan and Dilip Kumar, notable in film history as the vehicle that gave Mohammed Rafi his first major duet hit alongside a superstar singer. Feroz Nizami's music combined Punjabi folk warmth with Urdu lyrical elegance. Its college-romance froth hid a historic hinge: the Noor Jehan–Rafi duet that announced playback's next king.

Feroz Nizami's score draws on Punjabi melodic traditions — earthier and more folk-inflected than the Bombay mainstream. 'Yahan Badla Wafa Ka' became the film's signature and Rafi's calling card.

The film was produced by director Shaukat Hussain Rizvi, Noor Jehan's husband at the time. The pairing of Noor Jehan and the young Rafi was Nizami's decision, drawn by the complementarity of their vocal textures.

Jugnu marks the moment Mohammed Rafi crossed from promising newcomer to recognized star — his duet 'Yahan Badla Wafa Ka' with Noor Jehan demonstrated that his voice could hold its own alongside the greatest female singer of the era. It is also among Noor Jehan's last films before Partition.

Jugnu is now remembered primarily as the film where Rafi arrived. Every subsequent Rafi-Noor Jehan duet possibility was foreclosed by Partition within months of the film's release.
