The Gulzar-Vishal Bhardwaj partnership is one of Hindi film music's most fertile. Beginning with Maachis (1996); through Omkara (2006), Kaminey (2009), Crazxy (2025) and now Gustaakh Ishq. Gulzar is past 90. Bhardwaj is 50. Yet the partnership retains a youthfulness — the ability to give any Urdu word a new life. For Gustaakh Ishq, Gulzar wrote five songs, each showing love's different face: 'Ul Jalool' has playful absurdity; 'Aap Is Dhoop Mein' has vulnerable exposure; 'Sheher Tere' has geography becoming beloved; 'Chal Musafir' has journey becoming love; 'Hum Fanaa' has self-annihilation.
