The Monographपरिचय Overview

'Hame Dam De Ke Chale Haye Jane Wale' is one of the ten documented songs from Sheikh Chilli (1942), the comedy-fantasy directed by Kikubhai Desai for Bombay's Paramount Film Company. As with the rest of the film's catalogue, the lyric is credited to the director himself and the music to the team of Khan Mastana and Damodar Sharma. Surviving records do not preserve the playback singer's name, a common gap for fantasy films of this period.
The Music

The composition is the work of the Khan Mastana–Damodar Sharma partnership, the music team credited across the whole of Sheikh Chilli. Khan Mastana, better known to history as a singer of the 1930s and 40s, here shares the music-director chair, working within the melodic, harmonium-and-tabla idiom typical of early-1940s Bombay studio scoring.
