अब पीना है

'Ab Peena Hai' belongs to the soundtrack of Roti (1942), Mehboob Khan's leftist drama about hunger and exploitation, with music by Anil Biswas. The film is historically notable for introducing Akhtaribai Faizabadi (later Begum Akhtar) to Hindi cinema as both actress and singer; her six ghazals were later withdrawn over a recording-contract dispute and issued on Megaphone records.

Anil Biswas frames this as a ghazal-leaning number for Akhtaribai Faizabadi (Begum Akhtar), letting her thumri-trained voice carry classical shadings over a restrained accompaniment — a rare instance of pure semi-classical singing inside a 1942 social film.
