The Monographजीवनी Biography

Nazim Panipati (1920 – 18 June 1998) was a lyricist and screenwriter who worked across Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi cinema in undivided India during the 1940s and early 1950s, before continuing his career in Pakistan. Born in Lahore, he wrote more than 200 songs over his career, including the lyrics for "Dil Mera Toda, Mujhe Kahin Ka Na Chhora" (composed by Ghulam Haider) for the film Majboor (1948) — the first song ever recorded by Lata Mangeshkar.
His filmography from the pre-partition and early post-independence years includes Zamindar (1942), Sahara (1943), Naukar (1943), Shirin Farhad (1945), Ragni (1945), Jag Biti (1946), Mitti (1947), Doli (1947), Heer Ranjha (1948), and Sheesh Mahal (1950). He was also known for spotting new talent: along with his brother, filmmaker Mohammad Wali (known as "Wali Sahib"), he is credited with persuading a young Pran to enter films in Lahore around 1939, and later helped coach Pran's Urdu diction.
After migrating to Pakistan in 1953, Panipati continued writing for Punjabi and Urdu films and later worked with Pakistan Television Corporation, contributing to the musical programme Jhankar in the mid-1960s. He died on 18 June 1998 in Lahore and was buried at the Model Town graveyard.
