The Monographपरिचय Overview

The Hindi Film Geet Kosh, hindigeetmala and pakmag.net all list this song for Ragini (1945) and all three name Nazim Panipati as its lyricist; none of them records a singer. Pandit Amarnath composed it, as he did every song in the film. Beyond the title line, nothing about the recording is documented, and no disc has been located.
The Music

Nothing of the setting can be described from a recording, because none survives in circulation. The only structural inference the documentation supports is that a kismat song in a 1945 Lahore social film would have been written as a reflective mid-tempo number rather than as a rhythmic one, since the form is an argument about causation rather than an occasion for dancing. That is stated as an inference and not as a fact about this particular disc.
The Poetry

Kismat is doing specific work in the title. To say that fate brought two people together is to remove agency from both of them, and in the Hindi-Urdu film song of this period that removal is almost always defensive: it is the line used when a meeting has to be justified against a social objection, or when it is about to be undone by something the speakers did not choose either. Nazim Panipati, whose pen-name points to Panipat and who is one of Ragini's three credited poets, is named on this song by all three catalogues; nothing about his life is asserted here, and without the full text nothing beyond the logic of the title is claimed either.
The Story

Ragini was a Maheshwari Pictures production of 1945, directed by Shankar Mehta in Lahore, with Smriti Biswas and Najm-ul-Hassan leading and Pran in support. Its ten songs are all by Pandit Amarnath, but only four carry a per-song lyricist in the surviving listings — and this is one of the two that carry Nazim Panipati's name in all of them. No plot of the film survives, so the song's dramatic placement is unknown.
The Legacy

The song has no recorded afterlife of any kind. Its documentary value is that it helps establish Nazim Panipati's actual share of the Ragini score: of the film's three credited lyricists he is the only one whose name attaches to more than one specific song, which is why this catalogue records his credit here and leaves the six unattributed songs' lyricist fields empty.

pakmag.net catalogues the title in Urdu-side romanisation as 'Kismat Nay Milaya Hay' and the Hindi Film Geet Kosh gives the full opening, 'Kismat ne milaya hai to ham milate rahenge'; hindigeetmala shortens it to 'Kismat Ne Milaya Hai'.

Of the ten songs in Ragini, six have no lyricist recorded for them individually — hindigeetmala repeats the film's full list of three poets on those, which is why this catalogue treats those entries as unattributed.
