मास्टर रतनलाल

Master Ratanlal was a music director in early-1940s Hindi cinema, remembered for the film Baraat (1942), which he scored jointly with a composer credited as Khemraj. Film-music researchers identify Khemraj as a pseudonym of his brother, the celebrated composer Khemchand Prakash, who was then under exclusive contract to Ranjit Studios and joined the project quietly to help Ratanlal establish himself as an independent music director. The Baraat score set Raghunath Brahmbhatt's lyrics to the voices of the era's leading female singers: Rajkumari sang 'Meri Tooti Jeevan Sitar' and, with Kaushalya, 'Sun Sun Ri Kali', while Kaushalya rendered 'Gulab Pankhadi'. Despite this family backing, Ratanlal's independent career did not take off, and Baraat remains his principal surviving credit.
