जोबन उमसाए

'Joban Umsaiye' belongs to the soundtrack of Roti (1942), Mehboob Khan's leftist drama about hunger and exploitation, with music by Anil Biswas. The film is historically notable for introducing Akhtaribai Faizabadi (later Begum Akhtar) to Hindi cinema as both actress and singer; her six ghazals were later withdrawn over a recording-contract dispute and issued on Megaphone records.

Anil Biswas grounds the number in folk-rooted melody, the kind of earthy, rhythm-led composition that gave Roti its working-class texture; his arrangement keeps the voice forward and the accompaniment spare.
