Laila Majnu was made at Hind Pictures in Bombay in 1945, produced and directed by Nazir, who also played Majnu opposite Swarnlata's Laila. Twelve songs are catalogued for the film, of which this is the only one with no singer attached in any source consulted. That is not unusual for the year: a survey of 1945 estimates that the singer is unknown for close to half of the roughly 670 Hindi film songs recorded across some 74 films. Studio records for small banners were not systematically kept, and where the shellac label is missing or unreadable there is simply nothing left to consult.
