राधारानी

Radharani was a playback and stage singer associated with Calcutta's New Theatres studio during the 1940s, regarded by chroniclers of the era as one of the finest non-Bengali voices to record for the studio. She came from a Marwari family settled in Bengal and was noted for a rich, distinctive vocal style. Beyond her film work, she also recorded popular private (non-film) songs.

Her film credits include Bambaiwali (1941), Manthan (1941), Jungle Princess (1942), Paraya Dhan (1943), Shri Ramanuja (1943), and Kashinath (1943) - in which she sang "Mere Dukh Ki Rain Kati," with lyrics by Pandit Bhushan and music by Pankaj Mullick - followed by Irada (1944), Kurukshetra (1945), Laaj (1946), Baap (1946), and Aisa Kyon (1947). Despite this substantial body of work, Radharani's contributions have been largely overlooked in vintage film-music compilations, and no reliable record of her birth, death, or personal background survives in accessible sources. She is sometimes confused in secondary sources with the actress-singer Radha Rani (Bombaywali), a different performer of the same era, but the two had distinct careers.
