'O Jamuna Maiya' is one of the ten documented songs of Sheikh Chilli (1942), Kikubhai Desai's comedy-fantasy for Paramount Film Company. Addressing the Yamuna as 'maiya' (mother), the title places it in the devotional river-reverence tradition that runs through Hindi film and folk song. The lyric is Desai's and the music is by the Khan Mastana–Damodar Sharma team; the playback singer is undocumented.

धुन ख़ान मस्ताना और दामोदर शर्मा की है। इस तरह का नदी-देवी आह्वान परंपरागत रूप से एक धीमी, श्रद्धापूर्ण, भजन-रंगी धुन पर रचा जाता — वह भक्ति-स्वर जिसे 1940 के दशक के आरंभिक बम्बई स्टूडियो प्रार्थना-गीतों के लिए सुरक्षित रखते थे — नरम हारमोनियम और तबले के साथ। तथापि शेष अभिलेख केवल शीर्षक और श्रेय रखता है, न कि राग या संयोजन।

The melody is by Khan Mastana and Damodar Sharma. A river-deity invocation of this kind would conventionally be set to a slow, reverent, bhajan-coloured tune — the devotional register early-1940s Bombay studios reserved for prayer songs — over gentle harmonium and tabla. The surviving record, however, holds only the title and credits, not the raga or arrangement.
