“Nazrul-Era Ghazal and Geet Sides — Angurbala” represents the c. 1929 discs of the Calcutta record queen during Kazi Nazrul Islam's first years at the Gramophone Company — the founding moment of Nazrul-geeti on record, alongside her continuing Hindustani ghazal-dadra art.

नज़रुल उन्हीं आवाज़ों के लिए लिखते थे जिन्हें वे गलियारे में सुन सकते थे, और उनमें सबसे आगे अंगुरबाला थीं: उनके गोल, रंगमंच में तपे स्वर ने नज़रुल के राग-रंगे गीतों को पहले निर्णायक रिकॉर्डेड रूप दिए, जबकि उनके उर्दू-हिंदुस्तानी तवे पुरानी महफ़िली भाषा को छापे में बनाए रखे। लगभग 1929 के तवों में दोनों संसार एक कंठ में बसे हैं।

Nazrul wrote for voices he could hear down the corridor, and Angurbala's was chief among them: her rounded, theatre-trained tone gave his raag-tinted geets their first definitive recorded shapes, while her Urdu-Hindustani sides kept the older salon idiom in print. The discs of c. 1929 hold both worlds in one voice.

नज़रुल इस्लाम — विद्रोह के कवि, हाल के क़ैदी — लगभग 1928 में ग्रामोफ़ोन कंपनी से जुड़े: लिखने, धुन बाँधने और गायकों को सिखाने। जमी-जमाई तारिकाएँ उनके पहले साज़ बनीं — सबसे बढ़कर अंगुरबाला और इंदुबाला। इस सहकार ने नज़रुल-गीति को रिकॉर्डेड विधा के रूप में रचा और उत्तर-औपनिवेशिक दौर के कैटलॉग को उसकी सबसे विलक्षण नई गीत-पोथी दी।

Nazrul Islam — poet of rebellion, recently of prison — joined the Gramophone Company around 1928 to write, compose and train singers. The established stars were his first instruments: Angurbala and Indubala above all. The collaboration created Nazrul-geeti as a recorded genre and gave the late-colonial catalogue its most distinctive new songbook.
