The Monographपरिचय Overview

'Naachti Koi Pari Ho' — 'as though some fairy were dancing' — is the dance piece among the nine songs documented for Taramati (1945). HindiGeetMala and MySwar both list it in this form. The credit line is identical on all nine songs documented for the film: music by Ramchandra Pal and Keshavrao Bhole jointly, lyric by Mukhram Sharma 'Ashant'. No singer is named for any of them. Nothing else about it is recorded: no singer, no recording in circulation, no lyric text, and no indication of where in the film it fell.
The Music

A dance number is the one place in a 1940s score where the composer is expected to lead with rhythm rather than with melody: the tabla or dholak pattern is written first and the tune is fitted over it, because the number exists to be moved to. Keshavrao Bhole, sharing the credit here with Ramchandra Pal, was unusual among his contemporaries in treating rhythm as a dramatic instrument — at Prabhat he had his actors rehearse to live music so that their movement would follow the score rather than the other way round. None of that can be checked against this particular recording, which has never surfaced; no singer is named and no description of the performance exists.
The Poetry

The line is framed as a supposition rather than a statement — not 'a fairy is dancing' but 'as if some fairy were'. The Urdu-Hindi 'pari' arrives from Persian with its whole apparatus intact: not a small winged creature but a being of another order, beautiful to the point of being slightly dangerous to look at. Calling a dancer a pari is therefore both the highest compliment available and a way of putting her out of reach, and the hedging 'koi' — 'some' fairy, not a particular one — keeps her unnamed and unplaceable. Who is watching, who is dancing and why cannot be recovered: no print of the film survives, no song booklet has been found, and no verse of this lyric is reproduced here.
The Story

Taramati is entered in the 1945 Hindi film registers as a mythological, directed by Raja Nene for Ramnik Productions, with a cast headed by Shobhana Samarth. Mythologicals of the period routinely carried one dance number — often a court entertainment or a celebration scene early in the story, before the reversal — but whether that is what this song was in this film is not documented, and the film's own script cannot be consulted because no print or summary of it survives.
The Legacy

Like the other eight titles from this film, the song exists now only as an index entry. Its one documentary value is that it fills a slot: a soundtrack with a dance number, a lullaby, a work song, two prayers, a lament, a didactic verse and a heroic march is a complete 1940s mythological song plan, and the completeness of that plan is the strongest surviving evidence about a film that can no longer be watched.

Not one of Taramati's nine songs carries a singer credit. HindiGeetMala gives each title its own page and fills in the lyricist and both music directors, but leaves the singer column empty on every one; MySwar's track listing does the same. Every song file for this film therefore has an empty singers array rather than a guess.

The film takes its title from the queen rather than the king: Taramati is the wife of Raja Harishchandra, who is sold into servitude along with her son when her husband gives away everything he has rather than break a promise. The same legend was the subject of Dadasaheb Phalke's Raja Harishchandra (1913), generally regarded as the first full-length Indian feature film — though that status has been debated, with some historians putting Dadasaheb Torne's Shree Pundalik (1912) first.

Wikipedia's register of Marathi films of 1945 lists Taramati as having been made simultaneously in Marathi and Hindi — the same bilingual method its director Raja Nene had used on Das Baje / Daha Wajta (1942), the film on which he, composer Keshavrao Bhole and lyricist Mukhram Sharma had all worked together at Prabhat.
