No recording has been located and nothing beyond the title has been recovered, so this entry records what the catalogues hold rather than what the song sounded like. The phrase itself - to settle someone in the mind, to give them a dwelling there - belongs to a register that Hindi film lyric writing of the period used constantly, and it is deliberately unstable: the same words serve a woman addressing a lover and a devotee addressing a deity, and a 1945 audience would have heard both possibilities at once.

No transfer of this recording has surfaced and its arrangement cannot honestly be described. What the record does establish is who made it: Bulo C. Rani, then in his second year of composing independently after five years assisting Khemchand Prakash at Ranjit, writing for a singer whose strength was a warm, unforced middle register rather than range or ornament. Everything documented about his work of this period points the same way - simple melodic shapes, harmonium and light percussion, and an arrangement that gets out of the singer's path.

Basana is one of the quietly precise verbs of the Hindi lyric: it means to settle, to inhabit, to found a dwelling, and it is what villages and hearts both do. To ask someone to basa le you in their man is therefore not a request for affection but for residence - for a permanent address in another person's inner life. The construction also puts the power on the other side of the sentence: the speaker cannot install herself, she can only ask to be installed. In a film whose title is built on the chakor bird's hopeless vigil over the moon, that asymmetry is the point, and it recurs across the score. Beyond the title phrase, nothing of the text has been recovered, and which of Chand Chakori's three billed lyricists actually wrote it cannot be settled from the sources.

Chand Chakori was directed for Ranjit Movietone by Kidar Sharma, between his Mumtaz Mahal (1944) and Dhanna Bhagat (1945) and two years before he founded his own unit and launched Raj Kapoor and Madhubala in Neel Kamal (1947). Mumtaz Shanti led the cast opposite Surendra, and the picture finished sixth on Box Office India's ranking of 1945 earners. Bulo C. Rani wrote all thirteen songs; Amirbai Karnataki, who is the only singer any catalogue names for the film, is credited on seven of them, this among them.

The entry's value is documentary. Chand Chakori's song list is a reconstruction assembled from 78-rpm labels and the Hindi Film Geet Kosh tradition rather than a surviving studio document, and titles like this one - a common phrase, no recording, no independent corroboration of the credits - are exactly where such lists are thinnest. Preserving it as a title with an honest note attached is more useful than dressing it up, because it keeps the shape of the soundtrack intact while marking clearly where the evidence stops.
