'Doobte Bharat Ko Bachao, Mere Kartaar' stands first in the record listing for Parinde (1945) and is the only song in the film sung by Zohrabai Ambalewali, then one of the leading female voices in Bombay film music. Rammurti Chaturvedi's lyric addresses God directly and asks him to save a country that is going under; Pandit Gobind Ram sets it as a devotional appeal rather than as a march.

Gobind Ram was a Lahore-trained composer whose instinct ran to melody and rhythm rather than declamation, and he treats this number as prarthana rather than parade music — a patriotic appeal delivered in the shape of a hymn. That choice suits Zohrabai Ambalewali, whose khayal and thumri training gave her weight in the lower and middle registers rather than brightness at the top, and who was at her most characteristic in slow, weighted material. It was also the pragmatic choice in 1945: a straight nationalist anthem invited the censor, a prayer addressed to the Creator did not. Beyond that, nothing about the recording is documented — no raag, no taal, no instrumentation, no duration is recorded in any listing consulted, and none is guessed at here.

The lyric's controlling image is of the country as something going under water, and of God as the only agency that can pull it back up. Two things follow from that choice. It converts a political demand into a religious one — the addressee is kartaar, the Creator, and no human authority is named anywhere — which is how a great many nationalist songs of the war years reached the gramophone at all. And it places the audience as a congregation rather than as a crowd: the song asks for assent, not for action, which made it singable in a cinema hall in 1945 without consequences. Rammurti Chaturvedi wrote all eight songs of Parinde, and this one sits at the head of the record listing, which makes it the film's opening statement of position.

Parinde (1945) was written, produced and directed by Acharya P. K. Atre for Atre Pictures — one of only two Hindi films the Marathi playwright directed himself. Its hero (Surendra) is a schoolteacher and the son of a soldier killed in service who enlists during the Burma campaign and trains as a pilot, while at home the heroine's father profits from hoarding and the black market. The eight songs split between that private romance and a public register of prayer and exhortation, of which this is the first. Because the surviving print is heavily cut, with damaged sound in places and lost picture in others, where exactly this song falls in the narrative is not recorded in any account consulted.

Zohrabai Ambalewali sang for a great many 1944–46 productions and most of the minor ones have vanished; this is the Parinde track that has not. Collectors' archives have preserved it as audio, so it remains one of the seven Parinde recordings a listener can still reach even though the film is in poor condition — the ordinary fate of a 1945 programme picture, where the record outlives the print.
