दिल झूम

Dil Jhoom (दिल झूम) is the romantic ballad from Gadar 2 (2023), Anil Sharma's blockbuster sequel to Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, composed by Mithoon with lyrics by Sayeed Quadri and sung by Arijit Singh. Released as part of the film's soundtrack on Zee Music Company around mid-August 2023 — just ahead of the film's 11 August theatrical release — the track was positioned as the soundtrack's tender counterpoint to Gadar 2's action and patriotic set-pieces, built around the young-love track for Utkarsh Sharma and Simratt Kaur's characters. While it did not chart with the same intensity as the film's blockbuster box-office run (Gadar 2 became one of Hindi cinema's highest-grossing films of 2023), Dil Jhoom found a steady audience through Arijit Singh's devoted fan base and the film's massive theatrical footprint, accumulating tens of millions of YouTube views across its official audio and lyric-video uploads.

Mithoon builds Dil Jhoom around his signature restrained, piano-and-strings-led balladry, giving Arijit Singh's voice ample room to carry the melody without competing production. The arrangement leans on a slow-building string section and minimal percussion, in keeping with Mithoon's established style on soulful Bollywood ballads, and Singh's rendition — marked by his characteristic breath control and understated emotional delivery — anchors the track as a straightforward romantic solo rather than the multi-voice ensemble pieces elsewhere on the Gadar 2 soundtrack.

Sayeed Quadri's lyric works in the familiar Urdu-Hindi register of admiring a beloved's grace from a respectful distance — words like 'nafaasat' (refinement) and 'nazaakat' (delicacy) frame the beloved's charm in classical ghazal-adjacent vocabulary, giving the song's simple romantic sentiment a poetic, old-world texture that suits Gadar 2's period-adjacent, nostalgia-driven emotional world.

Gadar 2, Anil Sharma's sequel to the 2001 blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, brought back Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel as Tara Singh and Sakeena, this time centred on their son Charanjeet (Utkarsh Sharma) and his romance with Muskaan (Simratt Kaur) against the backdrop of the 1971 India-Pakistan war. Dil Jhoom serves as the film's romantic-track for the younger couple, offering a gentler emotional beat amid the film's heavier themes of family separation and wartime rescue. The film released theatrically on 11 August 2023 and went on to become one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of the year.

While overshadowed commercially by Gadar 2's own record-breaking box-office run and by the soundtrack's more high-profile multi-singer tracks like Chal Tere Ishq Mein, Dil Jhoom holds a steady place among Arijit Singh's 2023 discography, drawing consistent streams through his fan following and the film's massive theatrical audience reach.
