The Monographपरिचय Overview

Bumpa is a 2024 single that paired Delhi singer-rapper King with American pop star Jason Derulo for a bilingual, dance-floor-ready hook track — Derulo's first-ever collaboration with an Indian artist. Released on 26 April 2024 by Warner Music India, the song was co-written by King and Derulo, produced by Karan Kanchan and Riz Shain, and built around the repeated, language-crossing chant 'Bumpa de bum.' The official music video, choreographed by the French dance duo Les Twins (known for their work with Beyoncé and Derulo himself) and directed by Young Chang, has drawn more than 4 million views on King's YouTube channel.
The Music

Producers Karan Kanchan — a leading figure in India's hip-hop and trap production scene — and Riz Shain built 'Bumpa' around a synth-and-bass dance-pop chassis engineered for maximum crowd participation: a two-second, four-syllable hook ('Bumpa de bum') repeated as a chant, verses that alternate between King's Hindi cadence and Derulo's English delivery, and a short, tight runtime built for looping on short-form video. The production leans closer to global club-pop than traditional Bollywood orchestration, reflecting both artists' backgrounds outside the Hindi film music system.
The Poetry

'Bumpa' isn't built around a narrative lyric so much as a call-and-response hook — 'Bumpa de bum bumpa de bum' — that functions more as rhythm than as language, bridging King's Hindi verses and Derulo's English ones without needing translation. The Hindi verse that follows ('Kaha gayi abhi yahi thi vo, kisi ne pata kiya kaha gayi vo' — Where did she go, she was just here, has anyone seen where she went) sketches a light, playful search-in-the-crowd narrative rather than a developed love story, in keeping with the song's function as a dance-floor anthem rather than a ballad.
The Story

'Bumpa' brought together two artists from very different pop ecosystems: King, the Delhi-born rapper-singer who broke out via MTV Hustle and 2022's 'Maan Meri Jaan,' and Jason Derulo, the American hitmaker behind global smashes like 'Talk Dirty' and 'Swalla.' Released on 26 April 2024 through Warner Music India, the track marked Derulo's first-ever collaboration with an Indian artist. Both artists have said they co-wrote the song together — Derulo described the process as 'blending our languages and styles to ensure the vibe connects with listeners worldwide,' while King called it 'an incredible journey of creating a global dance anthem from India.' The music video, shot with choreography by Les Twins and direction by Young Chang, leaned into the track's identity as an internationally-minded dance single rather than a film-adjacent Bollywood number.
The Legacy

As Jason Derulo's first collaboration with an Indian artist, 'Bumpa' functioned as a marker of King's crossover reach beyond the Hindi-pop circuit — following his 2022 breakout 'Maan Meri Jaan' and arriving roughly a month after his other major 2024 collaboration, 'Aawara' with KSHMR and Zaeden. The choreography by Les Twins — a duo whose credits include tours and videos with Beyoncé and Derulo's own catalogue — gave the song a visual identity built for short-form video circulation. The official video has drawn more than 4 million views on King's YouTube channel.
