Vishal Bhardwaj's Hindustani adaptation of Shakespeare's immortal love tragedy — where Romi and Juhi's love blossoms amid the ancient feud between the Varna and Kapoor dynasties. Set against Mumbai's streets and steeped in Gulzar's poetry and Vishal's music, the tragedy itself becomes a poem. Vishal Bhardwaj composed all songs with Gulzar as lyricist and Arijit Singh as the lead voice — the trifecta of Bhardwaj-Gulzar-Singh that has defined Hindi cinema's most emotionally literate soundtrack tradition. The album spans moody romantic ballads (Hum To Tere Hi Liye The), street-level comedy (Paan Ki Dukaan), fever-dream romance (Ishq Ka Fever), and intimate farewell (Vaada Hai). Four additional remix/reprise tracks exist but were not included as primary song entities.

Bhardwaj's first collaboration with Triptii Dimri, following her breakthrough in Animal (2023). The Arijit Singh retirement announcement mid-production reportedly cast a shadow over the final recording sessions. Bhardwaj has spoken about the loss to Hindi cinema in multiple interviews.

One of Hindi cinema's most talked-about 2026 releases — earning approximately ₹92.86 crore and receiving both commercial success and critical praise simultaneously. But the film's biggest story was off-screen: Arijit Singh announced his retirement from playback singing in January 2026, and three O'Romeo songs became among his final major Bollywood recordings. Vishal Bhardwaj publicly expressed his grief.
