Based on Saratchandra Chattopadhyay's novel, Manzil traces a love triangle between two childhood friends — the modest scholar Mahim and the affluent Suresh — who both love Achala. She marries Mahim and moves to a village, but grows restless; when a house fire and Mahim's illness leave her vulnerable, Suresh's constant care draws her away. The two elope; Mahim, in the film's morally complex resolution, ultimately forgives Achala when she returns. The Hindi version ran 144 minutes alongside a parallel Bengali production (titled Grihadah).

The Soundtrackआर.

R.C. Boral and Pankaj Mullick's collaborative score brought the New Theatres house sound — lushly orchestrated, Bengal-classical inflected — to a Saratchandra romance; Arzoo Lakhnavi's Urdu verses added a North Indian poetic register to the Calcutta studio's characteristic idiom.

P.C. Barua's follow-up to Devdas (1935) continued New Theatres' commitment to serious literary adaptations with strong social undertones. The bilingual production model — simultaneous Hindi and Bengali versions — demonstrated New Theatres' ambition to dominate both major markets.
