A romantic drama from Kohinoor United Artists, Diwani Duniya — 'The Mad World' or 'A World Gone Crazy for Love' — was directed by Naval Gandhi and starred Zubeida, one of the most celebrated actresses of the early talkie era whose voice was heard in Alam Ara the same year. Kohinoor United Artists was an amalgamation of the storied Kohinoor Film Company with other talent, and Naval Gandhi was an experienced director of the era. The film's title reflects the popular Urdu metaphysical conceit of a world upended by love, a lyrical tradition carried directly from stage and ghazal culture into the new sound medium.
