This solo is widely cited as one of the very first songs Hemant Kumar recorded for Hindi cinema, sung for Pandit Amarnath's score in Irada (1944) at Calcutta's Indrapuri Studio. It is one of three numbers the young Bengali singer contributed to the film — his playback debut — set to Aziz Kashmiri's verse. The title's reflective, world-weary cast suited the contemplative grain of Hemant Kumar's early voice.
