A 1943 Hindi fantasy-comedy from Bharat Productions, Bombay, directed by Ramanlal Desai. As its title 'Bhagta Bhoot' (The Fleeing Ghost) and stunt-and-wrestler cast led by Baburao Pehalwan suggest, the film belonged to the popular vein of light fantasy and physical comedy that thrived in 1940s Bombay cinema alongside the era's heavier social dramas.

Music was composed by Vasant Kumar Naidu with all lyrics by Ehsan Rizvi. Eight songs are documented for the film, several of which — 'Hum To Bambai Ko Jayenge' and 'Bambai Me Amarika Wala Aaya Carnival' — carry the breezy, topical, city-comic flavour typical of light fantasy musicals of the period. Per-song playback singers are not recorded in available sources.
Aankh Se Aankh Mili
Bambai Me Amarika Wala Aaya Carnival
Hum To Bambai Ko Jayenge
Kya Karan Hai Rone Ka
Maine Jo Tumko Pyar Kiya
Meri Bagiya Me Aayi Bahar
Tankha Hamari Tees
Zara Naina Milaye Ja

Behind the Scenes

Director Ramanlal Desai and music director Vasant Kumar Naidu both worked steadily through the early-to-mid 1940s Bombay studio system. Naidu scored some 22 films between 1939 and 1947; lyricist Ehsan Rizvi was a working film poet of the same period. The cast leaned on wrestler-actors (Baburao and Vasantrao Pehalwan), consistent with the stunt-fantasy register of the production.
Significance

Bhagta Bhoot is part of the substantial but lightly documented stratum of 1940s Bombay studio output — the stunt, fantasy and comedy films that filled cinemas alongside the prestige productions of the same year (Kismet, Tansen, Ram Rajya). Its surviving record matters mainly as evidence of music director Vasant Kumar Naidu's prolific 1939–1947 career and lyricist Ehsan Rizvi's body of work.
Legacy

Like much of the era's genre cinema, Bhagta Bhoot survives chiefly through gramophone-era song catalogues rather than the film print. Its eight-song listing preserves a slice of Vasant Kumar Naidu and Ehsan Rizvi's collaboration and of the topical, Bombay-flavoured comic song that would become a durable strand of Hindi film music.
