बाल गंधर्व के पद मानो रंगभूषा पहने राग-संगीत थे: भैरवी, पीलू, जोगिया मंचीय आरिया में ढले, मुरकियों से लदी उस मिठास से अलंकृत जिसे महाराष्ट्र की एक पूरी पीढ़ी सौंदर्य की परिभाषा मानती थी। पुराने भोंपू की तुलना में उनकी पकती आवाज़ पर अधिक मेहरबान विद्युत माइक्रोफ़ोन ने वे तैरते ऊपरी सुर और बातचीत-सी अदा पकड़ ली, जिन्हें ध्वनिक तकनीक कुंद कर देती थी।
