Anandh Kalyani (also spelled Anandi Kalyani or Ananda Kalyani) is a rāga belonging to the Kalyan thaat family in the Hindustani tradition, named for its association with bliss (ānanda) and the Kalyan (or Kalyani in Carnatic) parent scale. It is related to the well-established Yaman and Yaman Kalyan ragas, all of which are characterised by the use of tivra Madhyama (sharp Ma) and a full set of otherwise shuddha (natural) swaras. In the Carnatic system, 'Kalyani' denotes the 65th melakarta (Mechakalyani, S R2 G3 M2 P D2 N3 S) — the parent of a vast family of janya ragas all sharing the tivra Ma that gives the Kalyan family its characteristic brightness and expansiveness. The Kalyan melakarta cluster in Carnatic and the Kalyan thaat in Hindustani both stand as among the most fertile and beloved scale-types in Indian classical music, associated with evening concerts, romantic yearning, and spiritual elevation.
