The Monographपरिचय Overview

"Peepal Ki Chhaon Tale Main Bhi Miloon Tu Bhi Mile" is one of the village-register songs of Naushad's Sanyasi (1945) score, written by Pandit Madhur. It is credited as a Zohrabai Ambalewali and Amar duet by both the Hindi Film Geet Kosh entry for the film and the Wikipedia soundtrack table; the hindigeetmala listing gives it to Zohrabai alone. This entry follows the two agreeing sources and records the hindigeetmala variant as a conflict rather than resolving it silently. No transfer of the side has surfaced online.
The Music

No transfer of the recording is available, so nothing about its arrangement can be described first-hand. What can be said is where it sits in the score: Sanyasi's ten songs divide into an Urdu-inflected group of laments and a Hindi village group built on folk metre, and this title — with its peepal tree and its plain rhyming construction — belongs squarely to the second. Naushad had built his reputation the previous year on exactly this material, the Purvanchal folk melody dressed in a small studio orchestra, in Rattan.
The Poetry

The peepal is the North Indian village's public shade tree — it stands at the edge of the settlement or by the well, and meeting under it is both plausible and semi-public, which is precisely what makes it usable as a lovers' rendezvous in folk song. The construction of the title is what carries the feeling: 'main bhi miloon tu bhi mile' puts the two arrivals in parallel and makes each conditional on the other, so the line is not a summons but a pact. Pandit Madhur is writing in the register of everyday village Hindi here, with no Persianate vocabulary at all — the same pen that produced the film's ghazal-flavoured titles. Beyond the opening line nothing of the verse is documented, and none of it is quoted here.
The Story

Sanyasi was Kardar Productions' 1945 release, written by Azm Bazidpuri and directed by A. R. Kardar, with Naushad composing and Pandit Madhur writing all ten songs. The cast pairs Shamim Bano as Radha with Amar as Mohan, and the actor Ghulam Mohammed — not the composer of the same name — plays the sanyasi of the title. Naushad's Wikipedia filmography marks the film a Silver Jubilee, a twenty-five-week run.
The Legacy

Along with "Ek Baat Kahun", this is one of the two sides of Sanyasi that no collector has yet digitised, so it exists only as a line in a catalogue. That is the ordinary condition of most 1940s Hindi film music: the Hindi Film Geet Kosh recorded the credits of tens of thousands of songs whose discs no longer circulate, and the gap between what is listed and what can be heard is where this title sits.

Sources disagree on this song's credit: the Hindi Film Geet Kosh and the Wikipedia soundtrack table both list it as a Zohrabai Ambalewali and Amar duet, while hindigeetmala lists it as a Zohrabai solo.

The peepal (Ficus religiosa) is a sacred tree in both Hindu and Buddhist practice and is the standard shade tree of a North Indian village square, which is why it recurs as a meeting place in Hindi folk lyric.
