The surviving transfer runs about two and three quarter minutes, which is a full 78-rpm side and tells you the song was built to a fixed length rather than trimmed from something longer. It alternates the two voices in complete phrases rather than trading half-lines, the older duet construction that lets each singer's tone register separately — Zohrabai's weight against Amar's lighter, more nasal placement — before they meet on the refrain. The band is the compact Kardar Studios group Naushad used all decade.

'Duniya' in Hindi-Urdu lyric almost never means simply the planet; it means people, society, the collective opinion that judges and gossips and eventually relents. To say that this duniya offers flowers is to invoke the standard arc of the ascetic story — the world that mocks the renunciate while he lives ends up garlanding him, and the garland is worth exactly as much as the mockery was. In a film built around a sanyasi that reading is close to unavoidable, though the specific narrative situation the song serves is not documented. No line of Pandit Madhur's text is reproduced here.

The male voice of Sanyasi is Amar, who is also in the cast as Mohan — the singing-actor arrangement that was still normal in 1945 and would be gone within a decade. He carries four of the film's ten sides, one of them alone. Naushad went on to use him again the next year in Keemat (1946). Around them Kardar assembled a cast of studio regulars, including the twelve-year-old Mehmood as Banke.

The label scan is the most valuable thing about this record's survival. Catalogue and matrix numbers are how the discography of 1940s Indian film music is actually reconstructed — they let a song be placed in the pressing sequence of a label's output. Adjacency alone proves nothing about the film, however: the Hindi Film Geet Kosh records that the neighbouring disc Ge 3531 carried a song from Dhamki (1945) on one side and, on the other, 'Yaad Phir Ayi' — a number Naushad wrote for Sanyasi that was dropped from the film and issued as a non-film side.
