The bhajan of the Amrapali (1945) soundtrack: eleven songs are documented for the film and this is one of the five whose singer the catalogues do not record. Saraswati Devi composed it; Kavi Pradeep is the film's credited lyricist. The title works on the near-rhyme of bhagat (devotee) and bhaag (fortune, destiny) — your fortunes will awaken — a construction the bhakti repertoire has used for centuries.

In form, a film bhajan of this period is built for congregational legibility: a medium tempo, a mukhda short enough to be answered by a chorus, and harmonium and dholak carrying the frame. The promise in the title is conditional on nothing but devotion itself, which is the characteristic bhakti move: fortune is not earned or petitioned, it wakes. The verb jagna (to wake) treats bhaag as something already present but asleep — a far gentler theology than one of reward. Kavi Pradeep, whose reputation rests on writing complex sentiment in village-plain Hindi, was well suited to this register.

Amrapali (1945) was directed by Nandlal Jaswantlal for Murli Movietone and drew on the legend of Amrapali of Vaishali, the celebrated nagarvadhu of the Licchavi republic who, in the traditional account, renounced her position and gave her mango grove and fortune to the Buddha's order. Sabita Devi, Prem Adib, Jeevan, Arun, Jagdish Sethi, Badri Prasad, Gulab and Sankatha Prasad are the documented cast. Saraswati Devi composed eleven songs for the picture to lyrics by Kavi Pradeep — one of the few soundtracks she wrote after leaving Bombay Talkies.

Nothing is documented about how this song was received and no claim is made. Its place in the record is as evidence that Amrapali's score reached across registers — a dance number, a Devi invocation, philosophical songs and this bhajan — rather than staying inside one.
