गफ़िल हरनालवी

Gafil Harnalvi was a lyricist active in Hindi cinema through the 1940s and into the mid-1950s. His pen name "Harnalvi" points to origins in Harnal, a naming convention common among Urdu-Hindi film writers of that era who adopted their hometown as a surname.

He wrote lyrics for numerous films of the period, including four of the nine songs in Khurshid Anwar's Parakh (1944), the 1946 film Rasili (alongside Hanuman Prasad), Baawra (1950), Afsana (1951) — which included songs performed by Lata Mangeshkar — Usha Kiran (1952), Toofan (1954), and Roop Basant (1955). Across his career he is credited with more than 50 songs, working alongside music directors such as Krishna Dayal, Husnlal Bhagatram, Hanuman Prasad, S.D. Batish, and Dhaniram, and singers including Lata Mangeshkar and Geeta Dutt.
