धुन

'Dhun' (Melody/Obsession) is a 4:36-minute Arijit Singh and Mithoon collaboration at the heart of Saiyaara (YRF Music, 2025) — both lyric and composition by Mithoon, one of Bollywood's most distinctive songwriting voices. In the film's narrative, 'Dhun' is the song Krish writes about his obsession with Vaani — the melody that becomes his soundtrack to her memory as Alzheimer's erases hers. Arijit Singh and Mithoon's collaboration has produced some of the decade's most enduring Hindi film songs; 'Dhun' is another landmark in that partnership.

Mithoon's composition for 'Dhun' takes its structural cue from the meta-narrative: a song about a melody being written must itself feel like a melody in the process of becoming. The arrangement is therefore more open and unresolved than a typical completed Bollywood film song — musical phrases trail off, the chorus doesn't quite close on a tonic, and Arijit Singh is given unusual melodic freedom to ornament at will. Mithoon and Arijit Singh's collaboration for Mohit Suri films is one of Bollywood's most reliably productive creative partnerships — they first worked together on Aashiqui 2 (2013) where 'Tum Hi Ho' became a decade-defining number. 'Dhun' is part of that same lineage: a Suri film that needs a song at the exact crossover point between a musician's emotion and a cinematic love story.

'Dhun' became the Saiyaara album's most critically respected track — praised for its compositional sophistication while the title track received the popular attention.
