Udh Jaayega (उड़ जाएगा) is the quietly devastating traditional-verse track from Qala (2022), Anvitaa Dutt's Netflix psychological period drama starring Tripti Dimri and debutant Babil Khan. While the rest of the soundtrack was composed by Amit Trivedi, Udh Jaayega was set apart — composed separately by Sagar Desai (who also scored the film's background music), built on centuries-old verses attributed to the mystic-poet Sant Kabir, and sung by playback vocalist Shahid Mallya over live tabla (Satyajeet Talwalkar) and sarod (Sarang Kulkarni). Shahid Mallya's vocal performance is restrained and unhurried, letting the repeated refrain of 'udh jaayega, hans akela' build through repetition rather than melodic ornamentation — a deliberate choice that mirrors the meditative cadence of a real bhajan rather than a conventional film song structure.

The verses draw on the well-known Kabir bhajan tradition of the hans (swan) as a metaphor for the soul — a recurring image in Nirgun bhakti poetry where the swan's solitary flight from the body represents death and liberation. The line 'jag darshan ka mela' ('the fairground spectacle of the world') frames earthly life itself as a temporary attraction one merely visits before departing, a classic Kabir device of using homely, everyday imagery (a village fair) to carry a profound spiritual idea.

Qala is set in the late 1930s and early 1940s and follows Qala Manjushree (Tripti Dimri), a celebrated playback singer whose success is shadowed by her fraught relationship with her mother and by Jagan (Babil Khan, in his film debut), an adopted rival singer her mother favoured. Udh Jaayega arrives in the film's emotional aftermath of Jagan's death, using the Kabir text's swan-and-soul imagery to mark that turning point — a rare moment in the narrative where the film pauses its psychological intensity for something closer to elegy.
