पिया मिलन की आधी

'Piya Milan Ki Aadhi' is one of only two songs from the 1944 Laxmi Productions film Miss Devi that survive in the gramophone record. Composed by Ashok Ghosh, it was issued by the National Gramophone Record Manufacturing Co. of Bombay, the label text printed in Roman, Urdu and Devanagari. With the film's print and detailed credits lost to time, the disc is effectively the song's last witness.

The composition is the work of Ashok Ghosh, a comparatively lesser-documented music director of the early 1940s whose surviving output is small. As with most film music of the period, the arrangement would have rested on a harmonium-and-tabla core with light string and woodwind support typical of 1944 studio recording; the exact instrumentation on this take is not documented.
