Duniya Na Mane (1937) builds to a scene — remarkable in any decade, extraordinary for 1937 — where Nirmala, forced into marriage against her will, sings her protest directly at her old husband and the social norms he represents. Shanta Apte — a trained classical singer — performed this live on camera, her voice carrying the controlled fury of Keshavrao Bhole's raga-based setting. The film's Hindi title is itself the protest: the world will not accept this.
